About this venue

WT Energiesysteme Arena is a large multi-purpose arena in Riesa, designed so that its interior layout can be adapted for sporting competitions, concerts, shows, exhibitions and other major events. The main hall covers more than 8,600 square metres and, depending on the configuration, can accommodate up to approximately 9,000 spectators in seated layouts or around 10,000 visitors in standing configurations. Movable seating sections and the extensive floor area allow organisers to create substantially different stage and audience arrangements.

Inside, the emphasis is on clear sightlines and flexibility for different types of events. A large stage area, seating that can be configured according to the production and on-site catering facilities allow the same venue to function both as a sports arena and as a setting for major concerts and entertainment productions. The atmosphere and seating arrangement can therefore vary considerably depending on the particular event.

The arena is located at Am Sportzentrum 5, 01589 Riesa, Germany. Five parking areas with a total of approximately 3,000 spaces are situated directly in front of and beside the venue, leaving only a short walk from the parking areas to the entrances. For a broader overview of rail, bus and other transport options within Riesa, the city information further down the page provides additional details.

About the city

Riesa, a city in the German state of Saxony on the banks of the Elbe, is a regional centre for sporting, concert and cultural events that combines an industrial tradition with a diverse range of experiences for visitors. WT Energiesysteme Arena Riesa is one of the city's most important addresses for major events, while Stadthalle "stern" and other cultural venues broaden the programme available throughout the year. The city's compact size makes it easy to combine an event with restaurants, accommodation and a short sightseeing trip, allowing visitors to organise their stay without lengthy transfers between different parts of Riesa.

Bahnhof Riesa railway station lies on the important Leipzig–Dresden corridor, and the regional RE 50 service connects Riesa with both major cities, alongside additional regional and long-distance rail connections. Urban and regional buses operated by Verkehrsgesellschaft Meißen (VGM) within the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) network connect Busbahnhof/Bahnhof with different parts of the city and make it easier to reach event venues. For visitors arriving by air, the main gateways to the region are Flughafen Dresden and Leipzig/Halle Airport, from where the journey to Riesa can be continued by train or road.

Before or after an event, it is worth walking along Hauptstraße and Rathausplatz, exploring the historic Kloster und Tierpark Riesa complex or continuing towards Stadtpark and the broad Freitreppe. The Elbe is a distinctive part of the city's identity, with riverside areas suitable for a walk and views of the monumental iron sculpture Elbquelle. The combination of the historic centre around the monastery and town hall, the riverside landscape and Riesa's industrial heritage gives the city a distinctive character and provides plenty to experience before or after a concert, sporting fixture or other event.
