About this venue

Messe Basel is one of Switzerland's most important exhibition and congress venues, with five exhibition halls and 25 conference spaces providing approximately 141,000 m² of event area. The distinctive modern section of the complex, completed in 2013 to a design by Herzog & de Meuron, is defined by layered volumes, an aluminium façade and the large circular opening above the City Lounge. Depending on the event configuration, the largest plenary setups can accommodate around 10,000 visitors.

Inside, the venue is designed for a wide range of formats, from congresses and business conferences to trade fairs, exhibitions, concerts and major public events. A highlight is the pillar-free Event Hall, offering 3,300 m² of space that can be reduced to 2,600 m² with partition walls, allowing the room size and acoustics to be adapted to different events. Air-conditioned spaces, flexible technical infrastructure, spacious foyers and direct connections between the halls make movement through the complex convenient even during large events.

The complex is located at Messeplatz 10, Basel, Switzerland, immediately beside the Messeplatz tram stop, with the main venue entrances only a few steps away. Visitors arriving by car can use the Messe Basel parking garage with approximately 1,200 spaces, reached directly from the A2 motorway via the Messe exit. For a broader overview of transport and getting around Basel, the city information further down the page provides additional details.

About the city

Basel, an elegant city on the Rhine, has long been recognized as one of the region’s most attractive destinations for top-tier events. Its compact center, cosmopolitan vibe, and proximity to borders make it an ideal choice for visitors who want to combine a concert experience or a major sports spectacle with an enjoyable city break. Everything feels “within easy reach” here, so planning your trip to an event is straightforward even if you’re only coming for a short stay.

A key advantage is the city’s reliable infrastructure and clear transport logic. The Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) tram and bus network makes it easy to move quickly between the center and major venues, while city and regional links are complemented by the S-Bahn. If you’re arriving by train, Basel SBB is the main station and a natural starting point for continuing toward arenas and stadiums, while Basel Badischer Bahnhof further simplifies connections in the German direction. If you’re flying in, EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg offers a practical gateway to the region, with city access that’s simple and well suited to event visitors.

Since you’re coming for tickets and great atmosphere, it’s worth enjoying the city’s tourist “bonus” too. A stroll through the Old Town (Altstadt), a short stop at Marktplatz, or a walk across Mittlere Brücke fits easily before or after the program. Along the Rhine, you’ll find promenades, cafés, and viewpoints, while the city’s museums and galleries add an extra cultural layer without complicating the logistics. Basel is exactly the kind of city where a big event and relaxed sightseeing naturally complement each other.
