About this venue
Kulturpalast Dresden is one of the most distinctive cultural venues in central Dresden, combining its original 1969 modernist architecture with a major transformation completed in 2017. At the heart of the building is a concert hall with 1,754 seats, home to the Dresden Philharmonic. The auditorium combines elements of vineyard-style and traditional shoebox concert hall design, keeping the audience visually and acoustically close to the stage, while the extensive glazing and characteristic mural give the building a strong architectural identity.
Inside, the main highlight is the outstanding acoustics, designed primarily for orchestral music but versatile enough for jazz, film music, crossover performances and other stage productions. Spacious foyers, cloakrooms, lifts, a box office and food and drink facilities make visits comfortable before and during events. The building also houses the Central Library and a cabaret theatre, making Kulturpalast a genuine multi-purpose cultural centre rather than simply a concert venue.
The venue is located at Schloßstraße 2, Dresden, Germany, directly beside Altmarkt. The Altmarkt tram stop is immediately in front of the building, leaving only a few steps to the main entrance.
